90 Degree Turn And Back to The Target

Today’s tip, dealing with the infamous “90-degree turn/Get your back to the target” lie.

The lie that is hurting golfers who don’t know better.

Yes, the BIG BELIEF is that, for a powerful golf swing, you need the Big Shoulder Turn… where you turn your back to the target and get behind the ball. This horrible advice to amateurs comes with an added tip for achieving this big turn — something they pretty much have to do to compensate for their lack of suppleness and flexibility.

And that is the subject of today’s lesson.

So to achieve this “Big Shoulder Turn”, they have to lift their left foot and move their left knee inward toward their right knee, making sort of a “K” with their legs. Beginners are told this leg movement increases the range of motion of their upper torso… enough to make the big turn.

And in fact, it does.

But there’s a problem with this:

See, when you move your left knee inward more than about an inch… and then turn your hips and shoulders to anywhere near 90 degrees or more… your right leg straightens.

This causes your spine to tilt forward or left as you approach the top of your backswing.

I call this “EBRT…End of Backswing Reverse Tilt.”

The position I teach is to place your legs shoulder-width apart — keeping your knees in line with your ankles and your hips, and to apply a little outward pressure in your thighs.

I call this “riding a skinny horse”.

You want to maintain this outward pressure and resist moving your left leg in the backswing.

This is the #1 key to perfecting the “3/4 Limited Turn Backswing” I teach.

Where you do not loose your spine angle.

That’s all for today.

Tomorrow’s lesson will cover the myth of the inside out swing to fix your slice. If you’re a “born slicer” then you do NOT want to miss this next one. It could change your entire game in a heartbeat!

And speaking of slicing…

One of my star students went from constantly slicing the ball all over the place to now being a scratch golfer who has complete control over where he hits the ball almost every single time.

How did he do it?

He simply followed a few of my tips in my Peak Performance Golf Swing.

You can read his story and how he conquered his slice at:
