In this lesson I’m going to help you Get a Grip.

There are two major areas where I notice grip problems among amateurs.

They are (1) “position” and (2) “pressure”.

By “position”, I’m referring to having too strong a left hand. That is, it’s rolled over to the right. This’ll cause bad pulls and hooks if you release the club through impact.

After a few of these bad shots to the left, your brain says “No more!” to this shot, and (deciding the problem was the fact that you released your grip) forces you instead to maintain that grip through impact. And what happens is, the clubface comes through in an open position and you whack the ball off to the right.

Plus, just to mess with you even more… every now and then, the Powers of the Universe allow you to hit it right down the fairway, leaving you wondering why you can only do it once in a while and not every time, consistently.

Hello?!

It’s your grip.

Straighten it out!

Now the big problem I see with “pressure” is due to too light a grip — no pressure at all.

Amateurs are always told use a light grip.

“Hold it like a baby bird”, they’re told. Or, “like a tube of toothpaste and you don’t want to squeeze any out.”

I’ve asked many players to grip their club and lift it toward me and I grab the clubhead and pull it right out of their hands or twist it with no resistance.

This is crazy!

How can you expect to lift the club up in the backswing… and swing it down and through impact… if you’re not even holding it firmly!

Heck, I bet most of them hold a pencil more firmly than that!

You have to grip that club with a relatively firm pressure –- just like a solid, confident handshake. The big problem with a too-loose grip at the start of your swing is that it causes you to grip too tightly –- suddenly! –- at the end of your swing.

This happens because, in the downswing — when the club is speeding up and gravity is helping pull the club down, and centrifugal force is pulling it away — your brain senses the club is sliding or slipping and it tells you to grab it.

So, grip that club firmly with a medium pressure in the first place — with equal pressure and firmness in both hands. And then maintain that pressure throughout the entire swing.

Okay, that’s it for today.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this short lesson and put it to good use.

Just doing this one change has helped many of my students drop a few more strokes.

And it might just help you do the same, too.

Happy Golfing.

In this lesson I want talk about cocking your wrists in the backswing.

If you believe cocking the wrists in the backswing is absolutely necessary for power generation you’re not alone. Many amateur golfers have been fed this faulty bit of advice. In fact, it’s common enough -– and harmful enough -– to get a spot in my Top 10 Amateur Swing Mistakes.

And we’re going to dispel this dangerous myth right now.

Listen, not only are amateurs told to cock their wrists… but you have 3 choices for where you cock, break or set them. You can be a:

1.) Takeaway-cocker — setting the angle immediately at the start of the backswing.

2.) Mid-cocker — where you set the angle when the club is around parallel to the ground.

3.) Top-cocker — where you cock your wrists to set the club parallel to the ground at the top of the backswing.

The point I want make here is this:

If you cock, break or set your wrists at any point during your back-swing, you are changing what I call “The #1 Domino.” Do you know what happens when the first domino falls?

They all fall!

When you cock or set your wrists, you change the angle of your left forearm to the shaft… as well as change all the muscle lengths and tone of your arms and hands.

So I believe, and teach, “Good wrist action is no wrist action.”

In the backswing, you want to do everything mentally and physically possible to ensure you never let your left wrist angle change in the backswing. Lifting the club properly, from the takeaway to the top of the backswing, gets the club above the hands at the top without any change in muscle length or tone, and is the key ingredient to having a 3/4 length and vertical backswing.

There you go.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this short lesson today.

Happy Golfing.

In this lesson we are going to look at golf swing posture

The major premise of my swing philosophy is:

“The set-up determines the motion … and the motion determines the result”.

Which is why any swing problem discussion requires looking at your set-up first.

And a major part of set-up is your posture!

Why?

Because when you adopt the correct posture, you swing with more ease… hit farther and with greater accuracy… and you get in sync with a more natural rhythm that will keep you playing for years to come without the aches, pains, and injuries that most golfers eventually suffer from.

Today, we’re going to tremendously improve your posture (and your entire game) by focusing on your shoulders and knees. In fact, when you get today’s lesson down, you’re going to absolutely amaze your golfing buddies as your scores start to plummet!

Now here’s the thing you really need to know:

The main culprit leading to poor posture is that over-used and faulty advice to “Be comfortable” or “Imagine you’re sitting on a barstool.”

These clichés are completely inaccurate and do nothing but cause problems.

I mean come on — you’re on a golf course!

“Comfortable” is sitting in a nice big, soft chair … or laying on a couch, or hammock. It means you’re relaxed… not ready. If you’re comfortable out here, then your muscles aren’t ready to perform a powerful golf swing. When you tell yourself to “get comfortable”, the tendency is to slouch your shoulders, and bend your knees far too much.

Instead you must be what I call “athletically” ready!

Like being in the batter’s box or waiting to receive a tennis serve.

Your muscles are primed and ready to spring into action.

You have to be ready!

And there you have it.

Happy Golfing.

Today we’ll have a look at the proper stance.

It’s CRUCIAL you pay close attention to your stance because it affects your balance. And, if your balance is off, you’ll have no control where that ball goes! But with the proper stance, your balance and power will skyrocket and your new drives will absolutely blow you away!

The most common problem I see with stance is going too wide.

Golfers have been led to believe a wide stance equals power.

Which is true to a point.

But too many golfers go way past that point, believing that “the wider, the better”. And once your feet get wider than your shoulders, they start looking like a triangle. And that’s the point at which you start introducing some major problems!

First of all, this places a lot of stress and pressure on your hips and lower back, and can eventually put an early end to your enjoyment of the game.

Another problem with a too-wide stance is the effect it has on your swing.

Too wide a stance will cause the hips to sway in the backswing, with the spine either sliding with the hips or going into a reverse tilt to the left. So, even with the drive, the very best stance for balance and power is keeping your feet shoulder-wide.

Pretty simple, isn’t it?

Yes, it IS simple.

And when you put it to use I bet you will see massive improvement right out the gate.

This is the exact same swing I teach my PGA Pro students that lets them hit the golf ball farther, straighter and more consistently every time — and without ANY pain.

In fact, do you want to know something interesting?

Two major medical universities have so far insisted on studying my swing to see how it works to (100% painlessly) help peoples’ swing so quickly (usually within just 2 buckets of balls).

You can see what all the fuss is about yourself at my site: Peak Performance Golf Swing

Check out more of Don’s Peak Performance Golf Swing videos

Our topic today is Golf Swing alignment.

Basically that means “the way you aim your body”.

How big a deal is this?

Well, I’d say that 90 to 95% of ALL swing problems arise out of alignment.

So not only is alignment important… but it’s critical!

If alignment is a problem for you, then getting today’s lesson lodged firmly in your brain is going to have a major impact on your very next game. And when you load it up with the rest of these tips, you’ll be the new King (or Queen) of your local links!

Enough build up, let’s get down to business:

I see so many amateurs aiming way to the right or way to the left of their target. When I point it out to them, they often reply, “Oh, I have to do that to compensate for my hook!”… or their slice. I then ask if them if they really want to play that hook or slice. And, of course, they always reply that they would rather hit it straight.

Well, the key here is that if you don’t want that big hook or slice then don’t set up way left or right to play for it.

Because if you do it will take more of what you don’t want to hit it to the target.

Remember… “what you focus on grows larger” and to hit it straight you have to AIM… Parallel Left.

Work on this don’t get lazy with it!

This is often what separates the boys from the girls in golf.

Now, there’s one last thing I want to say on this before we end today’s lesson.

I have found my teachings to be like a giant meat cleaver cutting through the sea of humanity and separating golfers into two very distinct groups:

(1) Those who “get” alignment.

(2) Those who don’t get alignment.

The fact is, almost nobody teaches alignment.

And if you want to know the real “secret” to humiliating your friends, winning bets and dominating tournaments, then alignment is IT.

This is why I spend a LOT of time on alignment in my Peak Performance Golf Swing videos.

In fact, just to make SURE my students “get” it, I even have a special bonus video where D.J. (who has so far won 2 PGA Championships with this swing) and I BOTH walk you through alignment step-by-step.

This one part of the PPGS alone can make you a super star on the links. I see it all the time.

You can grab your copy of these videos now at: PeakPerformanceGolfSwing.com

Check out more of Don’s Peak Performance Golf Swing videos

Today we’re going to take apart the take-away.

This is something a lot of amateur golfers don’t even think about. They were told early on to push the club away low to the ground and adopted that technique without question. Now, it’s just part of the way they do things.

That’s a big mistake!

And in today’s lesson, I’ll explain why and what you can do to correct it.

So pushing the club away low to the ground on take-away is just another one of those bogus tips that get tossed around. Truth is, taking the club away low causes the left shoulder to be pulled down, yielding a reverse tilt. Your club needs to be lifted up to keep the shoulders and hips level, and to get it above your hands at the top of the backswing.

I teach that we lift the club from the shoulder sockets up in a rounded arc.

I use the image of a catcher squatting right behind your aiming line — with his glove out, around knee high. Now what you do is lift your club up with both arms right from your shoulder sockets into the mitt toe up. The proper rotation of the arms and clubface is achieved by making sure the club goes into the mitt… toe up.

Pretty easy, isn’t it?

Go forth and practice it and then watch strokes drop from your game!

And don’t forget to bring my Peak Performance Golf Swing videos with you.

In fact, to make my swing even easier to learn and master, my team has made the videos in a format you can download right to your mobile phone.

That way, you can literally take The Surge on the links with you as your constant companion.

Still worried they may not be the “answer” you’ve been looking for?

I completely understand.

And that’s why you can have these videos for an entire year without risk.

If you’re not 100% convinced my system is the LAST golf swing lesson you will ever need, I’ll return every penny of your money and you can keep the videos just for wasting your time.

This way, they either work for you… or they’re FREE.

You can see what all the fuss is about yourself at my site:Peak Performance Golf Swing

Check out more of Don’s Peak Performance Golf Swing videos

Today’s tip, dealing with the infamous “90-degree turn/Get your back to the target” lie.

The lie that is hurting golfers who don’t know better.

Yes, the BIG BELIEF is that, for a powerful golf swing, you need the Big Shoulder Turn… where you turn your back to the target and get behind the ball. This horrible advice to amateurs comes with an added tip for achieving this big turn — something they pretty much have to do to compensate for their lack of suppleness and flexibility.

And that is the subject of today’s lesson.

So to achieve this “Big Shoulder Turn”, they have to lift their left foot and move their left knee inward toward their right knee, making sort of a “K” with their legs. Beginners are told this leg movement increases the range of motion of their upper torso… enough to make the big turn.

And in fact, it does.

But there’s a problem with this:

See, when you move your left knee inward more than about an inch… and then turn your hips and shoulders to anywhere near 90 degrees or more… your right leg straightens.

This causes your spine to tilt forward or left as you approach the top of your backswing.

I call this “EBRT…End of Backswing Reverse Tilt.”

The position I teach is to place your legs shoulder-width apart — keeping your knees in line with your ankles and your hips, and to apply a little outward pressure in your thighs.

I call this “riding a skinny horse”.

You want to maintain this outward pressure and resist moving your left leg in the backswing.

This is the #1 key to perfecting the “3/4 Limited Turn Backswing” I teach.

Where you do not loose your spine angle.

That’s all for today.

Tomorrow’s lesson will cover the myth of the inside out swing to fix your slice. If you’re a “born slicer” then you do NOT want to miss this next one. It could change your entire game in a heartbeat!

And speaking of slicing…

One of my star students went from constantly slicing the ball all over the place to now being a scratch golfer who has complete control over where he hits the ball almost every single time.

How did he do it?

He simply followed a few of my tips in my Peak Performance Golf Swing.

You can read his story and how he conquered his slice at:

Check out more of Don’s Peak Performance Golf Swing videos

Today’s tip, the Myth of the Inside-Out Swing.

Amateurs are often taught this swing path as a “quick fix” to cure the outside-in swing path that’s causing their big slices… and block right shots… and sometimes pulls and hooks.

And they just end up playing that unfortunate game I call “Army Golf”.

You know the drill… Left! Right! Left! Right!

Whenever I see an amateur swinging from the inside out, I ask them: “If you swing a baseball bat that way, or hit a tennis ball that way, where will the ball go?”

Their answer?

“Off to the right”, of course.

I always add, just to make a strong visual point, that if you put a ball on the ground and hit it with your nose, with an inside out swing path, it’ll go to the right.

And when you’re just sitting there… thinking about what I’m saying… rather than standing on the tee with your bag of bad habits, it all makes perfect sense.

The answer is to swing straight back and straight through.

Don’t swing inside-out to “correct” a slice, or any other problem. Two wrongs don’t make a right. FIX that slice – don’t just cover it.

Otherwise, it’s like always taking pain killers for your headache… and continuing to beat your head with a rock!

Try this, just to get the motion:

Assume your setup position, then toss a ball underhand, like skipping a rock on a lake. Swing your arm straight back and through and it goes straight forward.

That is your swing path … PERIOD!

That’s a wrap for today.

If you want even MORE ways to hit the golf ball straight as you can point… that are used by everyone from total golf “newbies” who have never picked up a club to PGA Pros who play under intense pressure (with hundreds of thousands of dollars on the line every time they swing the club)… then check out the Peak Performance Golf Swing videos today.

This swing is no “fluke.”

It’s based on science and the laws of human body mechanics — that never change.

In fact, it works so consistently (for so many people) it has been seen in prestigious magazines, newspapers and TV shows — like Golf Digest, Golf Tips Magazine, Men’s Fitness, Golf.com, Senior Golfer Magazine, Golf Week, The Golf Channel, PGA Magazine, Executive Golfer, The Boston Globe and numerous radio shows around the world.

Best part?

My videos let you learn the swing at a small fraction of what my private students pay.

Why not check them out today, while it’s still on your mind?

You have nothing to lose whatsoever. In fact, if after just 2 buckets of balls you don’t shave at LEAST 10 strokes off your game, they’re free.

Today I want to tell you about undoubtedly the BIGGEST and most EVIL problem in golf today:

Hitting down on the ball!

This is the first and worst thing told, taught, and stressed. Beginners are told that they must do this, to hit a golf ball. Heck, I’ve had students tell me they were taught to pound the ball into ground, or to beat the ball into the ground.

Well when you hit down, beat down, or pound down and take big, deep divots… there are some nasty things that can happen.

Which is why I think today will be quite an eye-opener for you.

So what actually happens when you hit down on the ball … down into the ground?

First of all, the club head is slowed by the ground, and can cause the club to twist in your hands. And hitting the ground with your club causes stress and strain on your fingers, hands, wrists, elbows, shoulders and even your back.

Each of these things is bad for your ball striking… and your body’s well-being, too!

I believe, profess, and teach that hitting down on the ball is evil – PERIOD!

Think about this:

Once you’re at the top of the backswing and transitioning into the downswing, your hands, arms and club are all coming down together… down with your body.

Your arms are pulling them down…

And, of course, you get a free and guaranteed-never-to-fail assist from gravity.

My big point here is that once you hit the ground and impact the ball, the club then has to go back up in the forward upswing. “Up” is not free and only happens if you make it happen. Hitting down throws all your momentum at the ground… and then you have to -– in a split second –- adjust or change your thought, intent, and motion to now going up.

I teach a thought process that results in a more simple, powerful, and consistent swing… one that’s triggered at the very top of the backswing.

Here’s what you want to do:

In that transition at the top of the backswing, instead of hitting down, you now think of “SWING UP” to your T-Finish. Swinging up triggers the lower body to start the downswing… as opposed to hitting down, which tends (especially in amateurs) to trigger the upper body. Triggering the upper body gets the swing out of sequence… and often sets your club on an outside to inside swing path.

So, since down is free and the forward upswing is not, I’m confident the thought of swinging up to the finish will have you hitting the ball more solidly… straighter… and a whole lot longer!

In fact… I guarantee it.

And while we’re talking about guarantees…

This Swing Surgeon guarantees everything he sells — including the Peak Performance Golf Swing system videos.

In fact, not only will I let you have them for an ENTIRE YEAR without risk… but if after using my system for just a couple rounds you don’t become the talk of your golf buddies, with people coming to you for advice crazy with jealousy of what you can do… then let me know.

I’ll send your money back and you can keep everything for your trouble.

What can be more fair than that?

This way you don’t have to worry if my system is the “real deal” or not. Frankly, if it doesn’t transform your swing overnight (without causing ANY pain to your back, hips or knees) then I don’t WANT your money, anyway.

So what are you waiting for?

You have nothing to lose except strokes!

My videos either help your game or they’re free.

Happy Golfing.

Check out more of Don’s Peak Performance Golf Swing videos

Well here we are at our 10th lesson of the “Top Ten Master Mistakes” series.

This one is PURELY psychological.

And, if you use it to your next round, I don’t see how you could possibly NOT play better golf.

Listen, in lessons or just playing with amateurs, I have heard them in outward self talk, or after a poor shot have asked them what they were thinking about in trying to make the shot, and heard things that blew my mind:

Don’t pick your head up!

Don’t break your left arm!

Don’t hit it in the left bunker!

But then don’t hit it in the stream on the right side!

And certainly don’t hit over the stream and out of bounds!

Don’t hit in the greenside bunker!

Don’t three putt!

Negative self talk like this is absolutely the kiss of death!

When I hear it I immediately say, “Well, you certainly know what you don’t want to do.” Then I ask, “Now, do you have any idea what you want to do?” I then give them a powerful mental image thought by saying: “Don’t think of an elephant.” And then I ask them when they didn’t try to think of an elephant, an elephant immediately jumped into their mind.

Fact is “Don’t Do Thoughts” absolutely do the exact opposite.

They burn the image of the don’t in your mind and will likely become your “DO.”

Next, I will ask them the defining question, “What do you want to do here?” And, always the answer is, “Hit it down the middle,” or hit it on the green, etc. So, finally I say, “From now on, Play in the Positive Mental Zone. Just say what you want to do, hit it in the middle, on the green, and look at where you want your ball to end up.”

You have to know there is a trap left, water and OB right.

You know it, but never dwell on it, only on the Positive Result you want!”

That ties up your 10 free tips series.

Many golfers have told me JUST these tips have changed their entire games. And have taken them from not being able to break 100 to shooting as low as 80 or below.

But you know what?

They’re small potatoes compared to what awaits you in my Peak Performance Golf Swing videos.

These videos have been “battle tested” by every kind of golfer imaginable:

Young and old… experienced and inexperienced… people with back injuries and people in optimal shape. No matter WHO you are, my swing WILL improve your game… and do it right away.

This is no joke, either.

There is no waiting around or “getting worse before you get better” nonsense. There is ZERO pain in your back, knees and hips. And there is often a HUGE change in your scores after practicing on as little as 2 buckets of balls.

Does this sound too good to be true?

Maybe even impossible or like just more typical Internet hype?

I totally understand.

I would be skeptical, too.

Heck, it seems everyone is a golf “guru” these days. But unlike the one-hit-wonders who promise the moon but can never deliver, I can back up everything I say in two ways:

1. SCIENCE

My swing is based 100% on the laws of gravity, physics and body mechanics. By tapping into these universal forces, you can’t help but hit the ball longer, straighter and more solid every time — whether you BELIEVE you can or not.

Why do I say this?

Because if you jump off a cliff you will FALL because of gravity. It’s guaranteed.

Likewise, when you use these laws in your golf swing, you WILL improve — whether you “believe” they work or not.

2. TRACK RECORD

I have used my swing to go from an above average golfer to winning some of the toughest amateur tournaments in the nation. And my son D.J. has ONLY used this swing since the day he could walk. He has never had to change swings or coaches.

And yet, he has (so far) won two PGA Championships — with just this ONE swing.

Not to mention the (literally) thousands of other golfers who have come to my practice tee frustrated, in pain and ready to quit, only to go back and beat their friends, win tournaments and play without ANY pain whatsoever (including students with crooked spines, artificial knees and who have had major back surgery).

In fact, do you want to know something that drives other golf swing coaches nuts?

Mine is the ONLY golf swing that has ever been put under the microscope by two major medical universities to see how it “ticks” — and lets people golf pain free and still hit the ball farther, straighter and more accurately than other swings.

Anyhow, I’m so confident my swing will work for YOU, I’m doing the unthinkable:

If at any time in the next year you aren’t 100% convinced The PPGS is the ONLY swing you will ever need… or if you don’t start hitting the ball farther, straighter and longer every single time after just practicing with a couple buckets of balls… I will return your money and let you KEEP the videos as my penalty.

That means I take ALL the risk and there is no way you can possibly lose!

But hey, don’t take my word for it.

Seeing is truly believing in this case.
